Konichiwa, this is Jamie. You're listening to the To Do San Francisco podcast for Friday, January 2nd, 2026. Thanks for tuning in this Friday as the weekend vibes start taking hold. If you're like me, you take advantage of weekends to seek out one of San Francisco's cozy, family-owned restaurants that provide a comfort and warmth that you just don't find at the more common transactional food joints. For Mexican food, I highly recommend Tio Chilo's on 24th Street in the Mission. It's a short walk from the 24th Street BART Station or many possible Muni bus routes. Some highlights of the family's authentic Mexican foods include burilla tacos, flavorful menudo, delicious pozole, and if you're in the mood, a memorable margarita. It's a fantastic place to wrap up your week and savor some comfort food. Today's act of kindness: If you run across someone taking a selfie or a picture of a companion, smile and say something like, "Would you like me to take a photo for you?" If their body language indicates they're uninterested, just politely wish them a great day and excuse yourself. No harm. If they accept your offer, ask if there's any particular background item they want captured in the photo. Take the picture and hand their camera back to them with a smile. You put some positivity out in the world regardless. This weekend, maybe go to one of San Francisco's comedy clubs. The Punchline in the Financial District, Cobb's Comedy Club in North Beach, Cheaper Than Therapy in Union Square, or the Function Comedy Club and Cocktail Lounge near Civic Center are all great places to relax and have a laugh with stand-up comedians and fellow San Franciscans. As you head into this weekend, remember that you are valued and never truly alone. San Francisco is a vibrant place and there's always an opportunity to connect with the culture potpourri around you. Wish you a restful and positive weekend. Next episode drops on Monday.
