Greetings, this is Jamie, and you're listening to the To Do San Francisco podcast for Monday, February 2. 2026. Before we do anything else today, take a breath and relax with me. Inhale gently through your nose. Pause and hold that breath for just a moment and exhale slowly. Let that weekend tension melt out with that breath. One more time, take a big breath in. Let it out. That's better. Good. Let's start the week with a light heart. Today's episode is all about one of the city's sweetest pleasures, ice cream, and a little history to go with it. Let's kick things off with Humphry Slocombe, the Mission District creamery that has become synonymous with bold, inventive flavors. They first opened their doors back in December 2008, determined to turn ice cream into an art form with offbeat, unforgettable scoops. People love their Secret B reakfast flavor, a bourbon-infused vanilla with crunchy cornflakes that's as playful as it is delicious. Another favorite is the Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee flavor, rich and robust with real coffee character that tastes like dessert and your afternoon pick me up. Humphry Slocombe has a location at the Ferry Building, FYI. Then there's Mitchell's Ice Cream, one of San Francisco's oldest ice cream treasures. This family run shop opened on June 6, 1953, and has been crafting super premium ice cream with 16% butterfat and top-notch ingredients ever since. Their Ube and Macapuno, tropical flavors inspired by Filipino fruits, are longtime local favorites, while classics like mint chocolate chip and Rocky Road keep tradition alive. When people think of old school San Francisco ice cream, Mitchell's is often the first name that comes to mind. You can find Mitchell's ice cream offered by various ice cream shops around the city, in addition to Mitchell's in the Outer Mission. And of course we can't forget Bi-Rite Creamery, which scooped its first cones in 2006 as a creative extension of the beloved Bi-Rite Market. Bi-Rite quickly became a Mission District staple with salted caramel, a perfectly balanced, sweet and salty sensation, and seasonal stars like honey lavender and balsamic strawberry that keep fans coming back year round. Whether you're grabbing a classic cone or something a little unexpected, the line out the door when it's warm out is almost part of the experience. And heading back over to Mission Dolores Park to enjoy it. Now before we wrap, here's your kindness tip for the day.
